Drop Hop Cross is a prototype born from experimental game design, imitating the Game & Watch game. The project included myself and 2 other people. My focus was to create an exciting game mechanic under limited conditions.

01

Game Objective

The main goal of "Drop Hop Cross" is to guide water droplets to the fish. To make the gameplay more engaging each level offers paths and strategies for players to explore. You have the freedom to choose your route each, with its advantages and challenges. This game encourages thinking and problem solving allowing you to find your path to succeed.

02

Game Mechanics

The game revolves around managing water droplets as you navigate across lotus leaves. As you progress through the levels you'll collect water drops. Strategically spend them when crossing cracks on the leaves. This resource management aspect adds decision making elements to the gameplay, where using drops wisely becomes crucial in overcoming obstacles and reaching the fish successfully. The challenge lies in allocating drops while ensuring a journey, through the vivid world of lotus leaves.

03

Obstacles and Challenges

The players face the initial challenge of navigating the lotus leaves, each of which may have 1 to 3 cracks in various directions. Upon encountering a crack, the player loses a precious water drop, underscoring the importance of careful movement and resource management.

As players progress through the game, they will be introduced to a rich variety of new obstacle types, each adding complexity and depth to the gameplay. These obstacle variations include spinning ruffles and insects that occupy the lotus leaves.

  • Spinning Ruffles: These dynamic obstacles rotate and change direction over time, requiring players to time their movements with precision to safely pass.

  • Insects: Insects create an additional layer of challenge. They may move along specific paths, block routes, or respond to the player's presence. Overcoming insect-related challenges demands a distinct set of strategies.
